DECKS

With happy customers around the Twin Cities and its surrounding suburbs, we take pride in every custom deck we have built.

Minneapolis' Trusted Deck Builder Built for Minnesota Living

Some people decide they want a deck after one too many summers sitting on a patch of grass wishing they had somewhere better to put a chair. Maybe that's you. Or maybe you already have a deck, but it wobbles when you walk on it and you've been putting off dealing with it for two winters now.

Either way you found us. Minneapolis Decks is a local deck builder, and we've been doing this work right here in the Twin Cities long enough to know exactly what our weather does to wood, and what it takes to build something that outlasts it.

Real Talk About Building a Deck in Minnesota

Here's something a lot of contractors won't tell you upfront: not every material is right for Minneapolis. Composite that looks gorgeous in a showroom can buckle if it's not installed with proper expansion gaps. Pressure-treated wood that isn't rated for ground contact won't last three years in our soil. We've seen it all and we've had to fix a lot of it too.

When we show up to talk about your project, we're going to be straight with you. We'll tell you what'll hold up and what won't. We'll tell you what your budget can realistically do. And if something isn't going to work the way you're imagining, we'll say so before you spend a dime, not after.

What We Actually Do

New Deck Installation

You've got a backyard. Maybe it's flat, maybe it slopes in a direction that makes no sense, maybe there's a tree right where you'd want to put a staircase. We figure it out. Our deck installation process starts with a real conversation about how you use your outdoor space not just a template we slap on every house on the block.

Deck Repair Services

Before you assume you need a whole new deck, let us take a look. A lot of decks that feel like they're on their last legs just need the right repairs rotted boards swapped out, joists sistered up, railings re-secured. Our deck repair services across the Twin Cities are honest ones. If it's worth fixing, we'll fix it. If it's not, we'll tell you that too.

Deck Replacement

Sometimes the bones are just gone. The ledger board is shot, the posts have been rotting from the inside, and no amount of patching is going to make it safe again. Deck replacement is the right call more often than homeowners want to hear but we make the process as painless as we can. Old structure gone, new one built, and you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Ready to get started? We'd love to hear about your project.

Why People in the Twin Cities Keep Calling Us Back

We're not going to fill this section with words like "passion" and "excellence." You've read that on every contractor's website. What we'll say instead is this: we answer our phones. We show up when we said we would. We don't go quiet after the contract is signed.

Our local deck contractors have worked in Minneapolis neighborhoods long enough to know the permit offices, the soil conditions, the HOA quirks. That stuff matters more than people realize. A project that gets held up by a permit issue or a surprise drainage problem under the surface doesn't just cost time it costs money and trust. We try hard not to let that happen.

Most of our new customers come from someone who already had us build or repair their deck. That's the thing we're most proud of, honestly.

Questions We Get Asked a Lot

When's the best time to start a deck project in the Twin Cities?

Spring and summer are the most popular times, and they book up fast. A lot of smart homeowners reach out in late fall or winter so they're first in line when the ground thaws. There's no harm in planning early it usually means a smoother project and better scheduling options.

Do I need a permit for a new deck in Minneapolis?

Most likely yes anything over 200 square feet or attached to the house typically requires a permit in Minneapolis. We handle all of that paperwork as part of our deck installation process. You won't need to navigate city codes on your own.

How do I know if my deck needs repairs or a full replacement?

Soft spots, wobbly railings, and surface cracking are usually repair territory. But if the structural framing the posts, beams, or ledger board is compromised, replacement is often the safer and cheaper long-term answer. Come out and we'll give you an honest read on it, no strings attached.
